The following In-service Training Courses have been developed by the New York State Department of State, Division of Code Enforcement and Administration Educational Services Unit, to provide certified code enforcement personnel the opportunity to attend continuing education programs to maintain their certification pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR, Part 434. These courses may be used in combination with other programs which have been approved and accredited by the Department of State to fulfill the required 24 hours of annual in-service training.
IMPORTANT NOTES The exact location of the courses are provided in the confirmation notice. Phone registrations are not accepted. The $25 registration fee applies to the Schuyler/Montour Falls location only.

FIRE AND STRUCTURAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS
This program is designed to review the rules, regulations, reporting forms and inspection activities pertaining to the school fire safety program mandated by the State Education Department. In order to conduct school inspections, code enforcement personnel must have completed the Code Compliance Technician Program or the Basic Training Program. Completion of this seminar by itself is insufficient to meet the certification requirement mandated by the State Education Department. This course will provide the student with 6 hours of Code Enforcement In-Service Training credit.

STRUCTURAL ISSUES FOR THE NON-ENGINEER BUILDING OFFICIAL This program has been designed to compliment Courses 9E and 9F of the Code Enforcement Basic Training Program. Students will research the structural requirements found in the Building and Residential Codes of New York State as they pertain to structural loading. Dead loads, live loads and environmental loads will be addressed as students learn to identify the continuous load path through residential and commercial structures. The proper use and handling of pre -engineered products such as trusses, wood I-joists, and laminated beams will be discussed. This program will also address the construction of exterior wood decks including loading issues, connections and proper fasteners and methods to be used when attaching decks to other structures. All participants attending this course must bring a copy of the Building Code AND Residential Code of New York State to class. This course will provide 6 hours of Code Enforcement In-Service Training credit.

REVIEW OF THE NYS EXISTING BUILDING CODE This course will provide the student with information on the New York State Existing Building Code. The Existing Building Code is used for repairs, alterations, change of occupancy, historic buildings and moving existing buildings. Course material includes a chapter by chapter introduction to the document, as well as a step by step example of using the Compliance Alternative method. All participants attending this course must bring a copy of the Existing Building Code of New York State to class. This program will provide 6 hours of Code Enforcement In-service Training credit.

GREEN BUILDING Green Building is a global effort to address numerous environmental issues, including energy efficiency, protection of the environment, reducing the use of natural resources, safe interior environment and reducing carbon emissions. This course is designed as an overview of the goals of green building. The course will provide the student with information on green standards, green organizations, green programs (voluntary and mandatory), green building methods and finally how these issues will affect code enforcement and compliance. This course will provide 6 hours of Code Enforcement In-Service Training credit.
